• The land where Schenectady exists today was purchased for, among other items, wampum.
• The Zip Code 12345 is located in Schenectady, zoned, however, solely for a famous Edison artifact: the Schenectady GE Plant. Towards the month of December, the power plant commonly receives many letters intended for Santa Claus in the “North Pole.” Several GE employees take time during their holidays to reply with warm words to the children’s letters.
• 89.1 WMHT is Schenectady’s National Public Radio playing news and classical music. Other popular stations play oldies, rock, soft rock, blues and country, and jazz.
• One of the nation’s first higher learning institutions and the first college with a planned campus is Union College of Schenectady.
